    I recently purchased an '81 XJ650 Canada model which had been chopped. The problem I'm running into is that I can only locate a manual for the XJ650G. Is there a difference?

    Th e G and H are non YICS and have cable drive tachometers. The J is a YICS and has an electronic tach. Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

    The letter designator "G" just means "1980 model year."
    G='80
    H='81
    J='82
    K='83

    If you do have an '81, then that manual applies. Actually, you'll need that manual no matter what year 650 it is; all of the other 650 manuals are just supplements paired with that book.

    For the 650 Maxims, the '80~'81 models were pre-YICS, and the '82~'83 bikes had YICS motors.

    Your bike may or may not actually be an '81; the way to know for sure is to look it up by VIN: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14577.html
