If I set my idle to just over 1000 RPM and then take a ride around in the country, the farther I go, the more the idle increases. If I reach down and spin the idle screw back down to normal and then ride again, it creeps up again.

Anyone ever heard of this? Is the idle adjustment screw too loose? Other than this one thing the engine runs perfectly fine.

mine does the same thing. it seems like the warmer my bike gets, the touchier the idle screw is. when its cold, you can turn it half a turn and get very little diference compared to when its warm, and 1/8 of a turn can be really significant.

Our bikes tend to do that.
The dirtier the starter passages are, the more it will fluctuate with the increased engine heat.
So clean those passages and the problem will solve itself, or just reset your idle each time you go out

They do that if they're too lean. You could have dirty starter passages or the mixture might be set wrong.

Also, you could have air leaks at butterfly shaft seals or carburetor holders (intake manifolds).

If you have non-stock exhaust or intake that can also make you run lean.
