My petcock leaking badly, - bought so-called 'repair' package which says is for '82 Seca RJ for $25, and installed (not like original diaphragm(?), - does not work! Had the petcock on and off trying different combinations, draining and refilling tank many times, and cannot stop it leaking in 'ON' position (put in 'PRI' or 'RES' position and leaks even heavier!)
    Any ideas please?

Thanks so much - my petcock different (not square diaphragm seat), but principles ie cleaning etc must be applied and I'll try again.

I suspect you don't have the original petcock.

    Hi Fitz! :)
Long time not heard from eh?
Yes you're right - from the thread XJRider put me on to, found out the repair part was wrong for my pet' as mine is Yamaha aftermarket HCP625, and different shape diaphragm etc, so I couldn't use part supplied.
I cleaned my original up, reinstalled, and everything works fine now!
......and GUESS WHAT? - Remember me from a year or two back, and all the problems I had with overevving (up to 1400 when at temperature)?
Tried everything suggested, and it was still doing it up (which I had become resigned to) UNTIL yesterday, WHEN I CLEANED THE PETCOCK!
It was obviously something to do with the vacuum feed from the petcock to the #3 cylinder, and now that part is working correctly, the idle stays at 1050-1150, even after reaching operating temperature! :D :)
 Something for future members to remember, if they ever get a similar issue...?
Thanks again to everyone on this great site, which I hold in very high regard!
:) YIPPEE - can look forward to doing proper tune-up now!
    Regs.
