    Hello

I am wander has anyone ever come across a video showing someone removing / repairing a starter clutch on an xj650? My clutch is occasionally slipping so I imagine the dogs are sticking or I may have a few broken spring.

I have read many posts, but I could not find anything on starter clutch in the “how to instructions” and in the “how to videos” .

I am experienced in removing and changed broken springs on starter clutch in an xs400 before but this is my first xj650 maxim.

I have read the manual, but wow – I am thinking it is very deep in the engine and I am starter to thinking I will have to remove the clutch plates and keep going deeper.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the information.
It was interesting to see segments through your engine rebuild.
I think the 1st test will be to pull apart my donor bike to get more hands on before starting on my bike.
It is currently working after an oil change, I am concern the problem will come back.

oil change can sometimes be the fix as well as removing starter and spraying the starter clutch to clean it.
sometimes synthetic oils can cause the slip problem. that being said it is likely that you may need to replace the starter clutch in the future.
if your donor bike has a viable motor that can be the fix you need. It all depends on the cash you want to spend.
only thing better than a set of spare carbs is a spare motor

Well it pretty cold here and the bike has been starting well ........ that speaks volume if it is starting well in the 14 F weather.
Being a new bike & engine to me, I am taking it slow, all I have done for the starter problem is give the bike an oil change (used 20x50 oil - thicker) and ensured the battery is fully.
    So far so good!! :)
