I'm just wondering if the Xj650 Turbo gears were hardened or not, and if so would that make the notorious 2nd gear problem never occur again??? I'm looking at splitting my case and fixing the tranny, but I would hate to have to do it again. Also does anyone know how many 'real' hours it would take to pull and split the motor...?

Yes, some of the turbos gears are hardened but from what I've been able to find out, not all. I think that 1&2,4&5 are but don't whip me if you find that I'm wrong about which ones. The literature from yammy only said that some of the gears were hardened.

How good a mechanic are we talking about? I would guess to say if he had all the engine replacement seals and gaskets and the proper tools, no reason it can't be removed and reinstalled inside of two work days including whatever you're going to do inside the engine.

Since most of us do this for fun, most of us don't really watch the clock. I'm gonna guess that like me, most others are more interested in doing it correctly without mistakes then worrying about time. Speed with the wrenches was only a factor as the track.....I can definitivly tell you that it takes 22 minutes to replace a GT750 piston.....provided you don't mind being scalded!!

    Anyone else venture a guess?
