1982 xj650 yics. Was told it had electrical issues, so I removed safety brain. No start but much better response to lights, horn, starter. Was told carb has been completely rebuilt. Took there word for it, other than I doubt a shop would have returned with vaccume lines all cut and plugged with screws hanging everywhere like Madusa' hair, so I read, read and read about these "interesting" carbs. Performed a first attempt bench sync (wow does our shop BLOW) and although I will redo today, it's much better, I hope. Got it to almost idle and run, sort of, with starting fluid. This is the first bike with a prI on the petcock I've ever seen, as well as on being off when on (when engine not running) and two hoses. Figured whoever had this bike did not use a manual nor have any idea what they were dealing with, so I assume they would either have stored with petcock at pri (if they even knew to pull line and check operation and flow). Yes the oil has gas (and now starting fluid, my bad) think the float bowls are all fine but then I remembered my dual-sports gassy oil (left on too long, 1984 XT600 1000 miles, stock grips, tires, everything). So, I'm hoping an oil change and vacuum lines. I should be able to change the oil without any input from you (geniuses) but nowhere, NOWHERE can I find where the vaccume lines go or how many there are. I've heard petcock to cyl 3. And that's all I know. Please help explain vacuum routing thouroly if possible, THANK YOU! Y'all kick ass...ps got bike for free after two previous owners AND local shop failed to bRing life to my new beast. She's much happier with me although still a little sick. 8)

Brass fitting on petcock takes a VACUUM hose that goes to brass vac port nipple on ANY of the intake manifolds (it doesn't matter which one, although the factoy typically put it on the #3 intake manifold). All other vac port nipples on the intake used a block-off cap.

Cast alloy fitting on petcock uses a FUEL line that goes to the fuel inlet t-fitting on the carb bank. It is recommended that an in-line fuel filter be used within this line.

That's it? Swangin then. Putting oil in right, meow. Also while I was draining the oil I figured I'd assess brakes, tire condition, lube the chain "wait what? Where's the effing chain?" Wow, shaft driven...cool?
