I suspect this might be a quick answer for the tech savvy out there, I hope.
Love the XJ Bikes, I've been riding one more than 25 years. Actually I have two 1985 XJ700 Maxim Ns, one I road for a long time and now for parts and another I picked up a couple years ago. Frame serial numbers are very close with the "1FH" in it for a Canadian import for both bikes. However my first bike has the Frame/Model ID code and engine ID code the same "1FH" in the number but my second 1985 XJ700 Maxim has the Frame/Model ID code of "1FH" and the engine ID code of "15T" yet the engines look identical. With a little investigation on this site the "15T" comes up as a ID code for a 1981 XJ750. Can someone out there let me know if a "15T" engine ID code could be still an XJ700 engine, is there a "cc" stamped on the engines somewhere?
    Thanks, Carl

The cc is stamped on front of the block under the head between the 2nd and 3rd exhaust pipes.

The engines are a direct swap. The 15T code is not going to be for a XJ700 engine. You have a transplant from a Canadian 1982 Maxim 750.

Thank You, I will look closely for the cc. Since I now know I have an 82 XJ750 engine, is it worth saving any XJ700 engine parts from my other XJ700 for it? I guess I shouldn't be surprised those engines could be directly swapped.
    Cheers.

Right side of the case just above the clutch cover.

And it's stamped into a flat, "ribbed" pad (the ribbing, like the edges on a coin, makes changes/counterfeiting easy to detect).
