alright so i have the opportunity to trade my 1985 xj700 for a 1981 cb750k, my xj700 has 36258km and needs the rear tire put on and possibly rear brakes for a safety, while the cb750 has 47353km and everything thing on its been polished (cleaner bike then mine) and has new tires and exhaust last year. I want to eventually turn whatever bike into a bobber. Just wanted to know everyones opinion on if i should trade the bike or not, thanks!

I used to have a 81 CB750K, now a 85 XJ700. I like the XJ a lot more. In my opinion the only thing the CB750 has over the XJ is available aftermarket upgrades and accessories. I never noticed by performance that the XJ has 50cc's less. The CB sits higher than the XJ and I believe the XJ handles better, but that's just me.

I belive the CB750 is your better bike HANDS DOWN! I have bot han XJ and a 72' cb750... that thing screams once you get it going! plus, CB750 engines are built ALOT better than a Yami engine. plus, when your chain gives, its just a price for a chain. if that XJ throws the driveshaft... you're looking at the cost of a lifetime to replace. and fix that shiat.

Stock Vs. Stock... idk about that... i like to adjust hieght levels and handlebars for clip ons thats just me i like to haul ass and lay it down on the track.

Who let this troll on here? (just kidding). Weren't the CBs SOHC? you have to think about parts availability, etc before agreeing to any swap.

That being said, if you're going to bob it trade for the CB :D, I'm a purist and get a little saddened when someone takes a nice looking original and cuts it up.

I've never ridden a CB 750, but owners love them. I love my XJ700N, but it doesn't get very good gas mileage. But just based on the fun factor, I vote for the XJ.

The 81 CB750 is a DOHC, new for that year and it is fast. The ride of each bike is different, XJ700 is a cruiser and the CB750 is a Standard. The Cb is taller and heavier, makes a great Cafe or cut down bobber, but stock vs stock, I'd pick the XJ.

If I'm not mistaken, the CB's don't use shims to adjust the valves. That would be a plus.

Dohc started in 79. i have ridden them both yamaha is a better bike in my opinion. The honda is big even feels big feels like a much bigger bike then it is with 4 into 4 pipes higher center of gravity same physical size as the cb900 1000 I would take what motorcycledude says lightly big difference between the sohc and the dohc motors. kinda like comparing a vw to a porche. Been riding for over 35 years never herd of anyone throwing a driveshaft on a street bike. Throw a chain good chance with that big chain you will break a case when it wraps up. Dohc are shim adjusted the old sohc were screw adjusters back in the late 60s when they were designed that is all they had. Personally i would rather have the sohc over the dohc like the way they look. Back in the early 70s they were fast for their time till the z1 for a 4 stroke that is. 500 kawasaki with chambers would leave them in a smoke cloud. If i remember correctly the dohc liked to overheat if i am not mistaken.

Yeah, because that's likely to happen.

Honestly, they're both neat bikes. You'll have to make the assessment yourself.

Rode the CB900. Very fast but I still like my Maxim clone with its 900 motor. I vote for the XJ.
