    Nobody.
Every hardtail converstion I've seen for an XJ has been homemade (some even made well).

Do this. Make struts from flat bar and ride for a while.

Im not pushing my opinion on ya, but I have noticed a lot of craigslist ads for

    "198? yamaha XJ?50 Bobber/Chopper

Custom chopper/bobber/hardtail old yamaha. Bought it as fun winter project but upgrading to softer ride. Fun to ride, gets lots of looks but wife says it has to go. Runs great but needs carb cleaning and a few odds and ends. $1 per cc OBO."

Translation: i cut and dropped this old yamaha into a hardtail and now it sucks to ride for more thsn 15 minutes at a time. Wife wont get on it. It ran like crap when i got it and now it runs like crap and kills my tailbone. Please take this away from me so I can ruin a sportster next.

Not saying youre about to engage in any craigslist level hackery, or that this mod is a bad idea or anything... Just that Ive noticed that a lot of people (not on this forum, this forum generally ruins their bikes in well thought out ways :) ) arent as happy with their bike after doing this.

    Take kmoes tip.

+1, 2 & 3 but I would use square, or round to reduce flex.

Simple to do, Simple to undo!

I'm thinking about 1/4" flat bar, not the thin hardware store stuff. I should have specified earlier.

:DHAHA I like it, once went to see a Seca old guy owned it... accident waiting to happen frame was drilled for foot pegs (one missing frame rusty & hole hogged out) I do not care for "hard tail" bikes , My tail is squichy , but my spine is not ! Lots of bikes for sale that people tried to make into things that should not have been attempted.

All good advice. I bought this bike wrecked for 200, rear of the frame got a little torqued, that's why I cut it and made that loop, Seat height is a little too high for me tho

Build a thinner seat with firmer padding. Also keep in mind that you only need one foot on the ground at a stop. Also keep in mind this kid.

That's pretty sweet. Decided to leave my bike the way it is, except change the colors, black frame with silver tank, rising sun definitely has to be on it too
