One of my first posts on the forum. I have a 1982 XJ750 MAxim and a 1982 XJ750 SECA. The Seca has had a fair bit of restoration work done on it and looks rather good. I just received my Class 6 motorbike license and am iching to get on the road. I like the Maxim - the way one sits, comfortable height so I insured it and have plates on it now. After the first ride I found out that the speedo was not working - so started looking for one. Tough to find around here. So, I have a lead on a 1982 Seca instrument cluster.

Question to folks on the forum is: Are the two instrument clusters compatable. From pictures it appears as if all connectors "look" the same. It appears though the mounting bracket is different and I am able to get that with the deal. I would rather have a Maxum instrument cluster just to keep the bike as original as possible but right now that is all that I seem to be able to find at a reasonable cost. If you know of one let me know. Any comments on compatability would be appreciated.

If Im not mistaken the speedometer unit itself, inside the cluster, is interchangable. They are pretty easy to take apart and pull the speedo unit out. Ive done it several times to fix a squealing shaft.
