Hi first post in this forum. Coming from Sweden and just bought a old bike from a friend. My mission with this bike is to turn it to a cafe racer for some summer cruices. But i´ve been looking around on internet for part but cant find much just for this bike.

Hope someone here can give me tips for websites that sell cool parts, not even on Ebay there are much.
Right now i dont got the bike home but soon i will pick it up and start rebuild.

I´m planning to remove all plastic and replace with new gauges, steering, mufflers. Then i want to cut in the back for a new slicker seat and new led lights in the back.

Bring it on what i can do.

Too bad you are on the other side of the ocean, I would have been interested in "all plastic" you will remove !

As a relatively old guy I can say that it's already a Cafe' Racer in the style of what was being emulated in the 80's; the Norton John Player Special and the like.

I don't mind a good cafe, but this bike looks like it's in beautiful shape. I don't mind cutting up a beat up bike, but I don't care so much personally for chopping a decent example. I agree with K-Moe about it already IS a classic cafe racer. Not a stripped down one, but a great bike as is.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy your bike. At least take it for a ride and evaluate it as is before changing anything.

If they are like mine, your handlebars are fully adjustable so you could get a cafe-racer-like riding posture.

You should try giving it a KZ race bike look!

There's a reasone you can't find parts as easily for this bike--- it's one of the rarer ones.

If you want to bob/chop/alter one, why not get one of the standard 650/750 plain maxims to do it with? They're very common

I´ll chop down this one, just a fun project. Now i´m aiming to swap tank to a slicker one like the XJ650 but hard to find to good prices. Any other suggestions for tank that is bolt on?

I'd also like to know of any tank that's compatible to bolt on. Anyone ?

A XJ900 tank is a perfect fit. No joke, no sarcasm. That's the only bolt-on tank for it.

Welcome Ante, nice bike you've got there:). In what part of Sweden do you live?

Depends where you are. Over here XJ900s are much more common than Maxims that were all imported, even then you only really see 550 Maxims.
I always think that those tanks look poor on a cafe conversion too. The straight edge at the rear bottom where it merges with the OEM side panel is difficult to disguise - same as the XJ/FJ 600s..

He seems to live in Sweden, it's the same here, 900s are common but have never even seen a Maxim here.

900s are indeed common in Sweden. And cheap. I've got two '83s myself. One to rebuild and one to drive until the other one's finished.

    Spot on

The 550/650 Seca tanks are the only tanks that look any good
