A daily viewer of all things XJ on this site but haven't posted for a while due to being busy with family and work...WORK!!! Going through one of those wonderful Corporate restructures where they make you apply for your own job!

I notice in the motorcycle community some gravitation towards Cafe Racers of late.

Just thought the link below may interest some people looking for ideas. It's my ambition to turn my XJ into a slightly leaner meaner Cafe Racer looking machine:

Besides removing the rev limiter, I wonder what he's doing to get a 900 to (safely) rev to 12K RPM. Stiffer valve springs?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That is one bad-ass looking bike! Makes me want to think about modifying my owned-from-new all-stock Seca 650!

That's a great lookin bike - was wondering what I could do to my 650 Seca next...

Maybe put a 900 motor in to start with. Has anybody got any experience of this transplant?

Keep yer bike the way it is....That way ya have a normal one to get about on........Build another one from scratch....that way ya can make it just the way ya want. Takes a bit longer, but worth it in the end.........That Cafe is a stunner....Hard to get a shaft drive squared away as a Hot Rod but that bike shows it can be done.....Should not be to hard to locate a 900 that has seen better days and the owner has lost interest......I've got a nuther project going along those lines & it always takes a LOT more $s and time than what ya may think when ya get started on it......Is it worth it?????...If ya do it right, YES!....Its YOUR bike, not a factory compromise......

    NigeW...........

Can the 900 crank, rods, cylinder & head be swapped into yer bottom? ( course gonna be details to tend to)....May be a easy way to get tru MOT when it was finished as everything would appear as it should..............

    Nice looking bike there.
I'm struggling with the Wow factor however I have to say. Clean looking & time spent on getting it like that yeh.
Bolt on tank & seat unit with some ace bars bolted to the standard top yoke. Standard peg & foot controls position, standard wheels & brake calipers. ??? Come on..... it still has a centre stand????
That'll make it to Cafe Racer TV no doubt looking like that..

Waiting to be shot down in flames now for my thoughts.. sorry. Maybe just not the way I would do it...

Agree with ya on everything Col...I'd do it a bit different too.

Had probs with the centerstand dragging on my Norton , return spring broke at a real bad time....what fun! 8O ...Never again.... Brakes/forks could be improved a LOT also...But still, I have never seen a shaft drive XJ set up quite like that!...Thinkin that it may not be a premier unit to drag the knee on but he has a start on one hell of a over the road Hot Rod.......

Just a clarification...the bike pictured is not my bike - although re-reading my original post it could be interpreted that way. Just an XJ900 that belongs to someone not far from me.

In any case, it's an inspiration when thinking of modifications to my own bike in the cafe racer mold.

And I can't figure where he shed 30 kilos (60lb??!!)...but if he did then an otherwise tame XJ can really be a thrill to ride.
