I have cracked my 900's oil cooler and need a replacement. Is it the same as the one on the 750? Or is there another model that I need to search for that will fit.

    Thanks,
    Bryan

    Hi Bryan,
I have the oil cooler from an XJ900 and a XJ750 to compare. See below pics.
The bolt is longer also but the 750 cover has the same dimensions but I'm guessing the 900 filter must be larger.
Strangely my XJ900 cover is cracked around the bolt also.
The taller one on the right is the XJ900.

    Hi Bryan,
Just took another look at the filters in chacals pricelist and in there they are all the same so I took a look at the parts diagrams and it looks like the XJ900RK may be the odd one out... but it still uses the same element in all! Go figure.

    According to the parts diagrams...
    XJ900RK
    cover: 4K0-13447-00-00 **
    element:1L9-13440-91-00
    bolt(Valve assembly) 4W5-13340-00-00 **

    XJ900RL
    cover: 4H7-13447-00
    element:1L9-13440-91
    bolt(Valve assembly) 1L9-13340-01

    XJ750RH,J,K,P
    cover: 4H7-13447-00-00
    element:1L9-13440-91-00
    bolt(Valve assembly) 1L9-13340-01-00

Oh, and if you were actually talking about the cooler, which I realise now is what you probably were, the parts show,

    XJ900RL 31A-13470-01
    XJ900RK 31A-13470-01
    XJ750P 4KO-13470-00

But I don't have an XJ900 cooler to compare :( after all that!

I'm not convinced that those are actually cracks. I have had many that look like that, but the are just casting marks and not really a problem. Unless, of course, you know for a fact that they ARE cracks :)

Thanks but I am refering to the oil cooler(radiator) not the filter housing.

    Hi Bryan,
Well at least you know about the oil filter cover now! LOL

I think the XJ900 cooler is a couple of rows taller than the 750 but this is a conclusion I came to from looking at some pictures when I was adapting the 750 gear to my 900 motor.

Dave, as far as the crack is concerend... good point I don't actually know if it leaks as it just came like that in a box of bits. I'll have to give it a clean and take a better look one day.

Yeah Do you think that the 750 one will work? Can't seem to find a 900 one yet. Or should I look for one off a 1100?

The question is... how hot is it in your parts?
The bigger the better but if your running around in freezing temperatures then you probably want your oil to stay warmer... which sounds strange.

I will be using the 750 one on my 900 motor (i used the 750 hoses too though as the 900 hoses were shorter) but if a 900 cooler jumped out at me I would swap it over, as we tend to have hot painful summers which are a bit rough on air cooled machinery.

My original cooler cracked on the hose flanges, got another from a wrecker and did the same. Bad design the flanges and the hose should be reversed, as you tighten the nut on the hose up it splits the flare on the cooler. Ended up giving the flange a light smear of gasket goo and smothered the nut did it and let it set. Has been fine since. Was very carefull not to get anywhere near the oil path itself.
