My 1983 XJ900 seca needs a new speedometer. It started squealing and after the needle made a few 360 Deg. swings it stopped at 120 MPH. Taking a look, the internal spring is a lost cause. The catalog says the part Number is 41Y-83570-G0-00. The speedometer has a 150 MPH max reading . A speedometer from a 1984 FJ600 has the same exact part munger but is a 120 MPH unit. I can also get this some part number from Europe but those read in KPH. I can't find a used 900 Seca speedometer but there is a used FL600 unit available at a fair price. I assume it would work but will it read the correct speed? Will it only read 120 MPH when I'm actually doing 150MPH? ( or more realistically, will it read 60 MPH at an actual 75MPH. I could swap over the faceplate but don't know about the unit internal gearing. Anybody have experience with this?

I fitted an XJ 600 pre diversion speedometer on mine and it worked. Did you get the 600 in the United States?

I don't have the XJ600 speedometer yet but I will go ahead and order it and see how it goes.

The 900f and 600f the units are the same. I just fitted it and everything worked.

I did replace the 900 Seca speedometer with the supposed good XJ600 speedometer and it mostly worked. It fit right up and when not screeching and howling and jumping around if read the correct speed. It was as bad if not worse than the 900 Seca speedometer was just before it self distracted. I continued my search but they seem to be rather scarce. My search finally lead me to a Norton specialist (go figure?) in Andover England who for some reason has "several" brand new Yamaha Seca 900 dash panels. Check out https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-details/19179/speedo-tacho-console-assembly-yamaha- This is a complete assembly as shown and was plug and play on my Seca. Not cheap but considering what you get i think it was a bargain. With currency conversion and air shipment to upstate NY the total came to $350. The Yamaha Part Number is 41Y.83570.50.

    Good Luck

Not a bargain, it zeroes out the mileage and then you have to spend time and money to go through the new bike break-in period all over again....;);););););)
