Hey all, I have a 1992 XJ900, I'm on a quest to get it started and on the road again, after a long time of being in bits.

Has anyone ever put wider wheels on their xjs, without having to change the shocks or swingarm?

I had an old CBR400, and could fit a Suzuki bandit tyre on the same wheel, so much wider.

Looking for some inspiration, I either widen the wheels and keep them road tyres, or I turn it into a scrambler looking thing.... granted it's a heavy lump of metal.

On the 900, the swingarm is the real limiter for width; you'd be lucky to get a 130 in there.
I picked up a V-Max rear wheel before that dawned on me.
However, there are some who've fitted the swingarm and wheel from the XJ900S Diversion. One bloke claimed it was easy, another one said it was a pig.
That allows a wider selection, however you go about fitting it.

I've got a divi (900s) swingarm on my 900 bitsa. Easy enough to fit, but horribly offset, or rather the wheel is. If that doesn't bother you crack on. My intention is to grab a bit here and there - adjust the swingarm bolts fully across, machine the wheel, and move the engine slightly as well. It's a project, hasn't moved on in a while, but if you have a welder, a lathe and some patients its all doable.
