So, I have a 93 Xj900f and have replaced the piston rings and have done a valve job. Getting ready to setup the timing and am not clear on the crank position before aligning the Cams. The book says align the T mark with the pointer. However, there was no pointer on this motor when I disassembled it. TDC (pistons 1 and 4) results in the T mark as shown in the attached photo. Any help would be appreciated. 3469883F-5E23-4F90-9006-036945C80E77.jpeg

That is exactly the way my 4BB 900f is timed T mark lined up with the top pick up coil. My engine does not have the pointer either. Welcome to the forum.

Hello Franz, many thanks for responding. So you setup the T mark on the top pickup coil and then align the cams according to the book?

your 900 looks awesome.. mine had a few cosmetic problems when I bought it. Therefore I am converting it to a street cafe bike. It is a long time project.

Yes the holes in the cams can be seen through the camshaft caps on the right hand side of the engine when cam timing is correct and the T mark on the rotor is on the top pick up coil at the crank. These are the correct timing positions on the engine.

Once you post five notices you can post photos of your project.
