Ok so I bought this xs 400 with the monoshock and the whole bit. I have rode it around for a month or two but it always was ill tempered about starting at times, and at other times it would start on the first try. a couple weeks ago it would not start and has not started since. It turns over, gets gas, but no spark on either plug. I have checked the ignition coils up under the gas tank and both are running a 3 ohm primary resistance and a 8.95 kohm secondary resistance. I am hoping that you expects can give me a next step to look at.

    -Fusebox

-Safety circuit: "Safety" relay, sidestand switch, clutch switch, neutral switch, starter relay (solenoid.)

-Weak battery-- it's possible to have enough "juice" to spin the motor but not fire the ignition.

Fusebox first. Fully charge and check battery. Unplug safety relay to TEMPORARILY bypass the entire system, as a diagnostic aid.

your looking for voltage going to the coil. and wether that voltage shuts off and on like it's supposed.

What year/model XS400? Sounds like a Seca with the Monoshock.

Differences would be, Points/Condensers against Pickup coils and TCI which might have the additional safety features as Fitz pointed out above.

I had a similar problem trying to start my xs400 maxim. Make sure you have a good ground on it. My bike would still turn over but no spark. I messed around with the ground and it worked fine. This may not be your problem but it helped me!

    It is an 1982.
I should have also added that that model doesn't have a stand safety switch. I have charged the battery to full charge a couple of times, but I am going to check the voltage while cranking the bike tomorrow.

I will post how it goes tomorrow.
