I am on ebay right now looking at a set of extended cables that are for an xs650 (76-84). I have an xj700. I am wondering if the xs cables are interchangable with mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-X ... ccessories

I am trying to get this bike done before march and I'm in a rush for these cables...doesn't seem like a bad price, but before I go and buy them I need to know if the ends are the same and if the original lengths are the same.

Probably not; although sometimes you get lucky.

Even if the end "barrels" or fittings are the same, here's the biggest issue with "cross-referencing" cables: The amount of "free" inner cable in relation to the outer cable. If this isn't reasonably close to your stock cables, then they won't work.

Good example: I put lower bars on my XJ550s. I needed a shorter clutch cable. The one from the 650 Seca, while a great fit length-wise, had too much "free length" for it to work well on my bikes, all of the adjustment was used up just getting it to BARELY work.

However, the one from a 750 Seca, while slightly different from the 650 cable in overall length, has a "MUCH CLOSER to the original 550's cable" relationship between the free length and the outer sheath, so it works fine.

I hope this makes sense, it's kind of hard to word so it doesn't sound confusing.
