I thought I would ask this hear becuase I'm not getting a response on the XS site.

I got a 82 XS650 special bobber project. It didn't have most of the electrical parts. I got all the parts in the mail the other day. I hooked everything up less not needed items (lights, gauge, ext). I decided to hook the starter up but am going to drop it later on once the bike is running good. When I hooked up the battery it started to spark and bubble up inside the battery. I removed it and disconnected everything. I then just hooked the starter power wire back up to the battery and it did the same thing.

Does this mean that the starter is grounding itself out?
    Thanks

Sure sounds like it. Pull that sucker apart and clean it out. You should be able to see if anything is out of place.
