    Hello-

I have a '95 Yamaha XJ600s Seca II that someone hit in a parking lot and then took off (lucky me) without leaving any info. I have since converted it to a naked bike (couldn't find a fairing) and put on a set of '79 XS1100 Special gauges (round with 160mph speedo). The speedo works fine but the problem is the tach. I figured that 3 wires on the XS equal 3 wires on the XJ...wrong! I wired them up and the needle just bounces a bit, but doesn't move. Through my research on other XS and XJ forums I've discovered that the XS gets the tach input from the alternator and the XJ receives input from the ignition module (at 4 pulses/revolution). My question is: can I make the XS tach work for my XJ bike. Is there a way of rewiring it or doing something to make it work because I really like the gauge set up. If anyone has any info or experiece on this subject I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you,
    Fitzy

Connnect it the same way as it was intended to and it will work but you will have to recalibrate it or the RPMs will be off. You have to open the housing to adjust it though.
