Sorry, I am still learning about these bikes, but what is the difference between an XS650 and an XJ650? One a Seca and one a Maxim? The reason I ask is that I am going Wednesday to buy one of these. The guys has both, and I am trying to figure out which would be better to restore. Taking it from the stance of "They are both the same in runnability and cosmetic repair."

    Thanks!

The Secas and Maxims are all XJ's. The XS 650 is a two cylinder inline design. There is also an XS 1100 which is an inline four. IT was later renamed the XJ 1100 but had less engine design in common with the original XJ line.

Kewl, so which would be a better buy, the XS650 or the XJ650? Both are 80's models.

Personal opinion would be the XJ if you like power and comfort. XS is a good score for nastalgia and is reasonably supported. Let your heart decide when you get there! Which one appeals to you?

Sorry for a late post. PC has been down for new carpet in the living room. Now that it is back together I would agree with Robert. Both are good bikes. The XS has some bugs biggest one being the charging system, but that is a quick fix with new brushes. The XJ is a better preformer and smoother. Both bikes have good sources for parts, OEM and aftermarket. For long trips the XJ wins hands down. I personally didn't like the XS after being on a Kawasaki KZ750 for a few years. I rode one and knew I wouldn't take it on long trips due to the vibration and lack of torque.
