Has anyone experience about these thumpers? I'm thinking to get some of those as second bike, but but don't know very much else as they look good and there are tons of parts available... And would be even better if you could tell me how is it compared to XJ 8) Somehow idea of one cylinder and one carburetor get exciting when your screwing with four of both

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
from my limited experience they are much lighter than the xj550, they have a dry sump for the oil. its in the frame i think...

they are kick start which i could NEVER figure out...

they seem to have good power but then again maybe it was because they are lighter...

I had two of them, a '78 and an '80, back in the day. Bought them both new, wrecked the '78 and replaced it with the '80.

NEAT BIKE, tons of torque. Lots of fun in the twisties, great around town. Tons of lean angle; cool wheelies coming out of second gear corners hard while still leaned over. Good fuel economy; not a touring bike.

NOT SO GREAT on the freeway; get bounced around quite a bit and sometimes have to downshift a gear to hold 70mph in a stiff wind. By comparison, my Seca 550 is as stable as a rock and has no trouble "rolling on" from 70mph in 6th without a downshift.

I loved my SRs; if I had more room in the garage I'd probably get another one but not as my daily rider/commuter.

I've got an XT500 as a work commuter (they're essentially the same as the SR). I've just recently re-built the top end and did new rings. It is very light, and an extremely simple bike to work on. And not to mention becoming highly sought after.

I remember lusting after one back in 1986. Far superior bike in my opinion, but probably harder to find than the SR.
