It matters in a few different areas.....Are both your bikes completley stock? Did he put a different sprocket on to gear himself lower to accelerate quicker? Maybe one bike has twice as many miles and had the hell beat out of it over the last 25 years.....I'd say you guys go to your local 1/4 mile dragstrip and line em' up, just to see who has the bragging rights.....Ya never know, you just might smoke em'!

With standard gearing on the Kwaka it should be close. Back in the day the XJ750 was the first of the class to better 12 seconds in the quater mile, the XJ is fast and quick esp. for a shaft drive. State of tune/mods/wear/rider matters. XJ should be happy going to 10,000 RPM in each gear easily passing 55 mph in second!

Practice your launch, hold at 4,000 rpm, front brake on, clutch just about to engage.....

Take him to the drag strip and see!

I agree, take it to the strip. If both bikes aren't completely bone stock, and in comparable mechanical shape, however, I doubt you'll get any reliable answers. You should also swap bikes to take the human factor into account. If you guys go for it, I'd like to hear. I know of a guy here with a very well restored XS110 that I'd like to take on at the strip, just to compare the two bikes (XS11 vs GS11).

In my experience, any performance loss from a shaft is more than made up for by it's fuss-free operation.

Regardless of the way the rear wheel is receiving it's power of rotation from the engine (shaft or chain) It all depends on the condition and tune of the engine itself.....and also who is better at launching their bike from a standstill, cause the experienced racer usually has the upper hand....not the guy who just got his first bike and wants to race, and just ends up standing the bike up when the tire grabs and doing an ass-plant on the pavement....Go to the strip and find out, and post your times if you can :)

don't be a squid. Race at the track in full gear only.

    I hate these posts.
