Also helps to dip it in oil before you put it in.

Go to the search field and type in PDF write ups, click on YICS tool and a PDF will show you how to make a YICS tool as well as tell you what mat'ls you'll need. You can make it for about 10 bucks.

It helps if you clean out the passage the tool goes into before using it, make it shiny in there, if you didn't already.

I made my own based on dwg on internet BUT needed to change lengths of cut copper tubing to actually have rubber hose expand in the right area of tube to shut off air flow and add another piece of hose and rubber washer on the adjustment (wing nut ) side to seal where it enters the passage. Some other people have complained that rubber hose melts but the black fuel line I purchased for the project was just fine. If your not up to the scavenger hunt for small parts and don't have the time or tools to make yourself - BUY it from this site afterall you will need it each time you sync the carbs ( once or twice a year probably ) and time is money - good luck

I stuffed it with oily rags (at first, I now have a tool)
I couldn't remove the rags by picking them out, so I hammered the wad thru using Chevy push rods & carpenter's hammer. That also cleaned the passage.

Chacal also sells the special pick to reach up into the transfer ports
It's the sharp edges of these drilled passages that make the "O" ring tool useless.

You can use a 45 caliper gun cleaning bore brush and rod. This works well.

I cleaned with a 45 cal gun brush.

I have the YICS from Chacal.

The first time I used it, it stuck when I had it almost completely inserted. I tapped it out from the other side using a small rod, and then coated it with silicone grease and it went in easily. However, it was stuck again when I tried to remove it. Tapped it out again and there was some damage to the rubber on the end, but not bad. I finally figured out that it was getting some sort of air block and that if I wiggled it a little while inserting or withdrawing, it worked well. But I always coat it with oil or silicone grease. Whether you buy one from Chacal or make you own, get a few extra rubber o-rings just in case.

Has anyone actually had success with the home-made YICS tool? I made one and tried it out this morning with a home-made manometer. Each carb was all over the place on the manometer and when I went to adjust it, it didn't do anything as far as the readings on the manometer, but it did change the idle of the engine. I'm thinking, "it ain't workin'". My cheapness may have to lose out to buying a REAL tool.

I used a shotgun cleaning rod and a .410 brass brush with acetone. Cleaned that port out super clean.
