Yamaha Induction Control System, or in lay terms, a hole in the head.

Of course, what most "lay people" are familiar with in regards to the YICS system is the YICS vacuum chamber passageway-----where you should use the blanking tool while synchronizing----is in the cylinder jugs, not the head..........

Good point Len. "Lay people" assume the whole upper side of the motor is the head. lol.

To give in laymen terms, the YICS passage was designed as a gas saving technique, it throws the fuel in the motor in a 'spin' pattern, to allow it to burn more properly. It also has an effect that balances the vacuum out between the carbs, but they need to be balanced without the YICS ports open.

Thus, using a YICS blanking tool, which can be bought from Chacal, or built, gets inserted in the passage to block the YICS ports inside the YICS passage. Thus, blocking the ports allows you to sync the carbs without the YICS passage sucking vacuum away from each carb.

Ummm, Doug, you didn't insert the YICS tool through one ear, and out the other, and blank off your brain before you drove your bike off that pier, did you? :D

If you did, you should know better by now, as a certain fella's ramblings confess to: the YIC tools is NOT needed in that circumstance.

    YICS Tool?

Len, what have you been smoking? Who uses a YICS tool nowadays.

I just use an EGA connected to the hole drilled in my headers. I filled my YICS passage up with lay-people's glue... otherwise known as playdough.

That playdough held up pretty good in the lake!

    1) Chacal is not the only guy in the world to 'sell' a YICS tool.
Remember Yamaha? Yeah. Oh, and remember all the other diagrams
online on how to build one? Yeah. And Rick's method DOES work.
But it's not as easy to remove, and not always a guaranteed '100% seal'
Because there are too many 'human variables' in the process.
In layman's terms the average idiot will botch it up.
    2) Somehow I doubt Chacal gives a flying poop that RickCoMatic has a
workaround on his homemade YICS tools...
I am sure he makes plenty of dough off the OTHER parts.

How did a debate on the effectiveness of YICS and the need or not for the block-off tool turn into a "slam Len" session, anyway?

Chacal's not the inventor of the tool, nor its "leading" advocate; he simply tries to give sound technical advice to people seeking it.

I was using a homemade YICS block-off tool before I discovered XJ Bikes and appreciate the fact that there is a source for a proper version of the tool. I don't think it's fair to characterize Len as the "leader of the pack" advocating its use; he's simply reporting as accurately as possible the technical info available on the subject.

Wiz, you seem more curmudgeonly than usual. Finally getting some unrideable weather in Oz?

Thankyou Fitz for the voice of reason in this yics carry on. I read a lot and post little at this very helpful site for us xj riders. I have bought parts from chacal/len here in oz and the bikes running beautifully i spose that makes me a competent mechanic as well. I have found chacals and wizards and many other peoles advice very helpful. So stop bitchin and continue with other more important stuff. I reckon if yamaha says use it then use it, the rest is up to you. And yeah it has been a bit cool n showery for riding lately.
