I've got a question about the factory CRASH BARS (or "engine guards" as they are sometimes called).

I know that the factory bars that were used on the X-models were only available in a 2-point style, and one of the mounting flanges had this funny little offset "stepped" shape to it for proper frame clearance.

Question is: did the 700 non-X (air-cooled) models also use this same set of guards, or did the non-X models use the more conventional, standard style bars (as used on the 550, 650, 750, 900 models)?

Does anyone have a set of 700 non-X original Yamaha guards on their bike?

    Thanks.

As with MOST things from xj700 to xj700x, parts will interchange. Heck, I have a full exhaust from an xj700 on my x even though part numbers differ. The frames are ALMOST identical with the exception of where and how the harness routes near the steering neck. The guards will interchange. I have a friend who has an xj550 that has my xj700 guards on his bike. Chacal, was this what you were looking for?

Well, sorta. I was looking more for actual information, maybe even part numbers, to verify the applications, or at least a real-world "had it on the bike and it fit fine" type of thing (although I agree with your interchange sentiments entirely).
