Title: Fork Seals

jauten1 - April 26, 2005 04:08 PM (GMT)
I am getting my liscense this weekend and was hoping to have the bike
inspected and insured by then, but it fauled inspection because the forks
are leaking a little.
Everything else on the bike I have done myself but I have never done work on
the forks.
I guess what I am asking is what do I need to do to fix this issue and what
parts do I need.
I can look the part numbers up on the XJCD but I dont know what needs to be
replaced to cure the problem... also I hear alot of you talking about
progressive springs anyone have a part number or website where to get those
I figure with the forks apart I may as well put those in as well....

You can obtain the Progressive Springs part # from here:

I replaced both fork seals and springs last year. Replacing the seals
will require a special tool to undo the nut at the bottom of the
fork so you can get to the the old seals to remove them.

The spring replacement is straight forward. However you will
require spacers at the top of the forks 1.5 inches. They
are mentioned in the instructions.
I ended up using a nut and bolt combo that I procured from Home Depot.
