Title: Electrical Problem

sandman - May 3, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
I'm having a few problems with this bike. <_<

Anyway, on my '82 Seca 750, The instrument panel blinked out on the way home from work. The backlights still work but nothing else does (but the mechanical speedo). The headlight went with it. I pulled the headlight and it looks like the unit is getting keyed power at the plug and I also checked the fuse and it was good. I got it to come on for a bit but I was not able to figure out how. Soo,,,

Does the headlight make up part of a circuit to let you know that its out? Should I crack open the guage pack and see whats up? Any ideas?

I'm getting real sick of the minivan. :D

Thanks!

Check all your eath points on the system. One of them may not be as clean as it could be or maybe have a broken wire/connection.

Right now, I'm going with a bad wire or connection inthe guage pack now. Everything else OHMs out good and the backlights on the guage packs are coming on. I get good power all the way up to the guage side of the power plug.

I'll just pull it all off tonight if I can and start messing with it. I need to oil the bearings on the tack and the speedo anyway.

OK, I got this figured out. I was able to trace it all back to a relay on the left side of the bike under the cover panel. Tapped on that and I got power back to everything.
