I tried starting up my bike a few weeks ago and now it dose something wierd. First thing it fired right up. Just like it would if it was allready warm. Rev's up smoothly then after 2-3 minutes of starting it will idle at 2500-4000 rpm. Eventually, after 5-7 minutes, each cyindler slowly dies and the bike is dead for a day or two. Acts like its flooded but don't smell gas. I thought maybe the chokes were sticking open so i pulled the carbs appart and they look very clean. Choke opens and closes perfect and Jets are clean. Fuel lines and filters are clean. Any ideas? I need lots of help.
This sounds like a problem I had years ago with my GTO. I know you said the filters were clean, but what kind of filter is it? If it is the small clear, cone-shaped piece with the little gold filter on the inside, it may be that the filter is clogging the fuel line.
Sometimes these types of filters can crystalize when subjected to heat. This means the gold filter turns rock hard, and then obstructs the flow of fuel to the carbs. Once this happens, the engine runs until the float bowls are empty, then the engine dies. Once the filter cools back down, it starts to flow again as if nothing happened. Then you start up the engine, it gets hot again and the problem starts all over again. Trust me, that was infuriating trying to figure out  Once I changed the filter, never had the problem again.
After the bike dies, have you opened the float screw to see if there is any gas in the float bowl? It is at the lower back of the carb, and there is a small outlet that will drain gas, if there is any in there. If not, this is probably your problem. Hope this helps, it would be a cheap fix for you. Cary.
