Title: MAC exhaust

jauten1 - February 16, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
My 1982 XJ650 currently has a Kerker exhaust that has paint peeling off of it. I would also prefer to have a 4 2 exhaust instead of 4 2 1. Are you guys familiar with MAC exhausts? Are they any good, most of all are they worth $285? :o

Thanks
John

Thank you I appreciate the response. After doing some more research I couldn't find any other manufactures that make exhaust for the XJ650 so MAC it is.... I ordered it last night. If anything I know I like the look of the exhaust it is the chrome turn out style. B)

Well like I said I bought the MAC exhaust and I must say it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted duel exhaust with turn outs and they look great. As for the sound I feel it is not as "ricey" as my 4 into 1 Kerker exhaust. The MAC seems to sound a bit more throaty. I will say that they did not fit right out of the box though. The flanges are kept in place by tack welds, but the flanges won't fit pst the frame with both flanges in place  Pretty easy to get past by cutting the welds with a hacksaw... The only other issue I still need to fix is that the rear brake pedal hits the exhaust when depressed. I think if i slide it out a little bit it should be fine though... :D

Hi John: I've also bought a MAC 4-1 exhaust for my XJ650 Seca. Did yours come with instructions? There were none with mine and I'm not sure all the parts were included. It seems to need a gasket or flange between the pipes and exhaust ports, otherwise the pipes just sit against the ports without any overlap to seal it up, other than the force of the flange bolts. How did yours go together?

Regards,
Dean

Mine did not come with instruction or the gaskets...
I ordered the gaskets seperate and then installed the system. Of course I was dying to see what it would look and sound like so I installed the pipes before the gaskets came and let me tell you that the pipes really leak exhaust without the gaskets. Once the gaskets came in I installed them correctly and everything works beautifully B)

I have a Vance&Hines 4-1 and I cut about 4 inches off the baffle. I love the way it sounds. I have a maxim 750 tho,,not sure if V&H makes one for a 650 or not.
