Title: Sidestand piece
Description: ..having difficulty finding...
Jim W - May 22, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
83 Maxim XJ650 needs the piece on the frame to which the sidestand attaches. It has been physically broken off.
Can anyone help out with this? I do have the stand itself on its way to me - but nothing to bolt it onto as yet.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, in looking at my bike there isn't going to be a piece you can just bolt on to hold the center stand. This piece is actually welded to the frame, so that would have been done at the factory.
You might check your local motorcycle salvage yard, maybe they have an old frame and could cut that part out and then you would have to weld it to your bike. Otherwise, you would have to just fabricate one yourself.

Cary,
I am talking about the side stand, not the centre stand.
I'm prepared to weld a piece on, so am looking for the chunk of frame with the piece as you suggest. I have no salvage yard near me so am hoping someone on here can help.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, sorry, I guess if I read your post a little better I would have known you were talking about the side stand, since that is what you mentioned. Must have been too early in the AM for me.
You might try www.ricepaddy.com. They sell thousands of parts on E-bay and they might have an old frame that they stripped for other parts they could fix you up with. I believe their website has an e-mail section where you can send your request. Good luck with your search.

Well they wanted $50 and I only had a day to respond and missed it, but at least they had it. I hope to find one for a bit less....else I guess I will end up making one.
So now next question is:
- could anyone on here take a picture of the part in question and post it?
Thanks,
Jim

I will have a look at mine if I get a chance tomorrow.
If I can get to it and have the time I can draw up a quick blueprint for it.
