Title: Maxim Flooding Out
mymaxim - May 25, 2005 01:44 PM (GMT)
I have an '82 750 Maxim. It is very cold blooded, and sometimes floods out to the point of having to change plugs to get it started again. Anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Check your float levels and petcock diaphram. Also ensure that when you run the machine you are not on "prime".

It's probably incorrectly set float levels, or worn float needles that aren't stopping the flow of gas appropriately.

I think my bike has the same prob brought to the shop twice they said that they worked on the carbs and put new spark wires and still dont know whats wrong  . When I rode it home it ran great parked it then came home of couple hours later she started right up. I rode to work today it started to rain the bike started to bogg down I was giving it gas but there was no power the engine was still running felt like she wanted to back fire. I started it back up and made it to work. 8Hr later went to start it fired right up then died. I turned the choke on and nothing happened sound like she wants to start. So right now my bike is at my job 25 mile from home

Try removing the air filter. as simple as it sounds or evan replace it with a new one. its often a cause of bogging, and over looked.

When it sits overnight in garage it wont start. I have to take the spark plugs out and spray engine stater to get her going. When she's running she kind of feels like she not running on all cylinder but she ride good what is the prob (air filter) (Carb) or petcock

Take off the carbs, take off the bowls, rest the carbs upside down on a flat surface. Measure from the gasket surface to the top of the float, it should be 17-18mm (I think that is the correct measurement, but I can't remember off the top of my head). At that height the floats will also run parellel with the gasket surface.
While you have the carbs off you should clean them up, esp the idle jet and float needles. If you do all this I will bet your bike runs like a charm.
