Title: XJ1100 Idle
Description: HELP!!!!!!!!

i have a XJ1100 Maxim,
for starters i can't get the bike to stay running. So i may synch the carbs. only way i have been able was to choke the day lights out of it. But when i set the synch and i back down the choke it stalls. i really cant be running the streets with the choke on idleing at 6000 rpms! tried the idle screw bogs out. i'm possitive the mixture is too rich. and i have no clue how to set that up. and the back brake and left front caliper is locking up. one of yamaha's dumbest ideas yet. I beleive it has to do with a little pain in the rear pin hole located in the Rear Master Cylinder, it's just gettin the the pin hole thats the trick. It's not that i'm unformiliar with theses bikes, my brother had a 80" XS850 mindnight, I had a 79 XS1100 special,(my first bike), and my father has a 81' XS1100 special. The Bike needs a little TLC but only 9700 original miles on it. I would really hate to part with it.

I'd take those carbs off and make sure they are nice and clean. Then I'd set the floats, eyeball the sync, and set the idle screws to stock (1.5-2 turns maybe?). Then I'd see how it ran and continue adjusting with them mounted.

Good luck!

well i found the problem to be that every carb was missing the fuel air mixture screw. so if anyonce can tell me how to set up the mixture with bubble gum and duck tape that would be nice. Or i could just tear apart the other bank of carbs and clean them..... then shove thm back where they came from might work too which ever is easier.
