Title: Suspension Maintenance
Description: How to soften the ride

mymaxim - May 28, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
I just got my 1982 750 Maxim. It seems whenever I hit a bump, it feels like the front shocks are either bottoming or are too stiff. Any ideas to soften up the ride a bit? Thanks. This forum is awesome!!

Should be about 7lbs of air pressure in your front forks both sides. anything more then that will make it bumpy.

I have the same bike. You need the Haynes Workshop Manual. It has all of Yamaha's recommedations for tire psi, fork psi, and the front forks and rear shock settings.

Our particular bike has numbered settings for adjustment according to weight and number of people on the bike on both the front forks and the rear shocks. Be sure to check the tires also. The Haynes book actually has a table that lists all the possible combinations to gain the most comfortable ride for you.

Good luck! B)
