Title: Suspension
Spain - February 22, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
I'm a large rider at 5' 11" and 265lbs. Does anyone know where I need to set my suspension? My front shocks are air and set to 35psi. My back shocks are dialed all the way out (spanner nut).

Sounds like you got it right. The only other two things you could do for your front end is to change the oil to a lower viscosity (makes it more stiff) and perhaps swap out the springs to progressive.
How is it handling now? I'm 6'2" at 215lbs.

The backshocks are set at the lowest tension. I did not think they should be set so low for my weight. I have not taken it over any bumpies so I don't know if it will bottom out.

If you do find that the shocks bottom out you could probably find some shocks from a heavier cruiser type bike that would fit and could help a lot. Center eye to eye on these shocks is 12.5" I believe.

General rule of thumb is to keep the suspension balanced front/rear and right/left. Basically, if you stiffen the front end up, you should stiffen the rear up equally. 35 psi sounds like a lot (my MaximX is rated to only 17 psi in the front). Not sure what bike you're riding, but too much pressure can blow the fork seals, then you have mush and oil.
Good point on the higher viscosity to stiffen the front end, but a higher viscosity also creates a little more heat (probabley not a big deal though).
If you crank up the front, then crank up the rear.

Lead 2 Gold,
I have air-forks.

I agree with L2G. 35psi sounds way too high. I use between 7.5 and 10 psi in my bikes.
