I am fixing to replace my clutch plate assembly on my bike and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with adding an additional clutch plate to the pack. I am a little over 200 LBS on a 700 and would think the extra plate would help. Been told it can't be done though.
Thanks
Mike
Not sure where you think you could stuff the extra plate?
Your best bet is to add the heavier springs.
Im about 220 and I have a 650 XJ and have no problems after changing the wear plates and using the proper engine oil.
I go about 240lbs. Try to reajust your clutch make sure you do both the bottom and the top. I had a slipping on mine and that solved it. Cables do tend to stretch a bit. How i did mine was 1: i loosened the cable at the lever. 2: took off clutch plate cover. 3: Loosened the retaining nut. 4: Take a philips head screw driver and turn the screw out ward till you feel no tension. 5: Turn that screw back in SLOWLY till you feel the slightest bit of resistance. 6: tighten down the retaining nut replace clutch cover. Then Repeat for the hand lever. 1: Pull lever till you feel slight tention. 2: Twist out ajustment screw till the lever is fully released but no tention. (i keep mine about 1/32 loose or close to that) Leaving a little play in the lever. 3: Hold the tention screw with pliers and tighten the retaining nut with channel locks.
I have a 700 and put a replacment EBC set of frictions in and heavy duty springs and it is now great.
The idea between putting an extra plate in would not work. I am not saying it would not fit but you would have all sorts of drag problems.
Hope this helps :o)
