Title: New XJ owner
Description: losing power on the freeway

Hello everyone,

I read this forum a bit before I bought my bike found it very helpful. I just brought her home tonite.... a '85 Maxim XJ700 with 16k miles. I rode back when i was 19 but I don't have a permit or lic. now so my buddy drove it home for me. I drove his truck and he followed.
It started right up and ran fine but when we got on the freeway he waved me over. I got out and he said it just started losing power. Like it was starving for fuel.

We got it started again but then the same thing happened. He ended up puttin it in the back of the pickup and brought it home. He and I both drove it around the neighboorhood and it ran fine, no hesitation no problems but I didn't get out of 3rd gear either.

The previous owner didn't drive it much and it had old gas in it from last year. I plan on changing the fuel filter (or equivalent) and getting fresh gas in her. Any other ideas for a new XJ owner?

I'm happy with it so far even with the trouble... I think it's something minor the engine seems solid otherwise. I'll try to post pics later.

Thanks
Justin

oh and I paid 1300 for it. I looked at 4 maxims and this was the cleanest by far. the others were about the same price 1500 obo and had 24-29k on it.

I think I got a good deal if I can get this little prob figured out.
