My XJ700 runs great as long as I don't get it wet.
Whenever I ride in the rain, my xj runs like it not firing on all cylinders, has a hard time starting, won't idle at all and this week, back fired for the first time.I can not figure out what is causing this. I have even tried to simulate it by running the hose on it to recreate the situation to diagnos it.
Has anyone else had this problem or can help.
I am starting to blame the coils due to there position and the crome covers, assuming it is arcing to the covers.
Thanks Mike
cracked plug wires? water getting into the intake tracct? leacky intake boots? The only water issues i have are at the car wash, high press. i run open k&n type filters and during downpours don't run into probs. Just when i take it to the car wash.By the way mines an1100XJ.
It acts as though the coils are giving out. I have noticed some cracks at the lower side of the bolts. Have sealed them and it still acts up. Original air box, no leaks that I have been able to find. I even went so far as to remove all the plugged connectors, clean them up and fill them full of electro goo. This did get my turn signals working again but the bike still acts up when I get in the littlest rain storm. Which is a lot recently. I am at whits end with this and I can not seem to recreate it. Is there anything else ignition that could be getting wet in the front of the bike that I am missing?
It's not the size Chevy but the way you handle it. :)
