Ok im trying to remove the rear wheel on my Maxim 650 and i CANNOT figure out how to get it the rest of the way off. I took the brake bolts loose on the right side and the axle is completely out but i dont know what i am missing since i lost my manual. Its around here somewhere i think but i have looked all over my house and cannot find it. And of course Yamaha wants me to order one and wait a week and im working on it NOW. What am i missing on this thing???

Not sure what you mean by the brake bolts being loose but there is also an arm on the right side bolted near the bottom of the brake drum that needs to come off.
The arm on the splined shaft coming out of the drum does not need to be removed but the linkage from the brake pedal to it does.
After that the wheel has to move over to the right to disengage from the shaft drive, then you should be able to pull it back.

I would not suggest a hammer..... but I had to hit the tire a few times, before it would jar loose. I good swift kick on a couple spots on the tire did the trick on my XJ650.
If you really need it, I could scan in the pages from my book & email them to you.

Well i had the entire linkage to the rear drum disconnected and it was stuck on the hub. I did end up just taking the hub of and draining the gear oil. *shrug* I will just refill it after i get the tire replaced but i would like to know how the hell to take it off in the first place and what i was missing as i could not get the wheel to come off the hub. I just wish i could find my damned book. I went to a lot of trouble to get that thing.
Thanks for the help guys!!

The mating gears inside the hub are a snug fit. The wheel has to be moved straight to the right. If it's not moved directly perpendicular to the right it might bind and then you find yourself struggling. Same when installing.
Be sure to use some lube when you put it back together. Good time to check your brake shoes and wheel bearings too.
I bought my manual from Amazon.com, cheap.
