Title: problematic 82 750

RACER626 - July 29, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
hey guys

i got a 1982 seca 750 and recently installed a MAC 4-1 exhaust with a custom baffle, before i changed the exhaust i had a slight problem if the bike not wanting to accelerate offidle, now that i have the exhaust the problem is pronounced.

at 3k rpm my bike takes off like a rocket but before that its kinda chugges along slowly accelerating, i think it may be running rich i have never had to use the choke to start, also i recently got pulled over for my bike making a loud pop which the officer assured me it was a 2' long blue flame

im completely lost, im about ready to take the carbs off and take em apart n clean em

any reccomendations?

Sound like the idle circuit in the carbs. Either a clogged pilot jet or starter jet. First I would run fuel down to reserve and add one gallon of fuel with about half a can of Seafoam. Put the bike on the centerstand and run it until the Seafoam gets to the engine. You will know this by the grey smoke from the exhaust ,the distinctive smell of burning Seafoam and rough running. Shut the bike down and let it sit overnight. Next morning drain the tank from the fuel line and add fresh fuel and maybe fresh plugs too. About 2 gallons of fuel shoud do it. Then ride it and see if things improve. Most likely you will have to rejet with a 4-1 header but that will be the main jet. If this doesn't work then you have to clean the carbs and pulling them will allow you to rejet also. Check the instructions with the header and see what they recommend for jets.

thankyou for the responce, the stock baffle that came with the system was designed to not need rejetting, unfortuantly i cant leave well enough alone so i custom made a baffle from a VW stinger baffle " http://empius.com/f/flangetipstubes.html item 3780"

i probably have to consult dynojet about rejetting or i may be able to drill the current jets,

hadnt though about running a heavy mix of seafoam tho i have run a little in it b4, ill do that whn i get to empty

again thankyou for the reply
