Can anyone tell me if I can put a larger rear wheel on my XJ600S please ? I think its currently a 4" wide with a 130/70x18 tyre. Would be nice to get a 180 or 190 tyre on the back.
The ones on the Fazers seem to be wider.....can you interchange bike wheels or are they unique to the model ?
As you can tell, I don't know too much about bikes yet.
I am still very new to the XJ750 and to motorcylces in general. I did, however, have a new front tire installed on my bike recently. At that time I inquired about having a larger tire put on and also asked about the back as well. (I too think the bike would look great with a little wider footprint). The guy at the shop told me that they wouldn't be able to do it because changing the tire size would make the bike handle poorly and could ultimately be fairly dangerous. I opted not to do it, cause I like safety. I also don't think there's any reason not to trust the guy because larger tires are more expensive which equals more money for them. So that's my experience--hope it helps.
The guy was right.
Don't mess with what the engineers did unless you know what you are doing.
The PO of my '81 750 Seca put a wider tire on the rear and when I changed it to the original size the bike was more stable and predictable.

you should be able to go up 1 tire size thats about it
if you go any larger on the rim you have it will affect
handling. but im with ya these skinny tires are LAME
looking. wish there were someone that made
chrome wheels for the maxims. at least the secas
wheels can be sanded and polished B)
