Title: Clutch housing for 85 XJ750X ?
xjgurp - August 18, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
The clutch housing for my 1985 XJ750 Maxim X is damaged. Two of the threaded clutch spring bolt hole towers are snapped off. The teeth around the edge are worn and damaged.
Does anyone have any leads or tips on replacing it? Is it interchangeable with other models or years?
Thanks very much,
John

I tried looking up your part # but can't find an 85 750 , only 700. Based on that I would say they are the same. I have a usedone I can sell you if the part is the same. I would ask your dealer to check on it or look up the part from Yamahamotors.com. The first 3 letters will be differentsuch as 4h7 or 5g2 but the part # may be the same. Mine is 4H7-16351-00-00. I found a 58L -16351-00-00 for the 85 700X. Got this from

OK I simply went ahead and ordered one from the local Yamaha dealer. Here's a photo of the damage I stupidly inflicted.
Note the two bolt hole towers snapped off. That's what happens when you read "use Universal Clutch Holder tool 90890-04086" and figure you can get by with a piece of angle iron.
Cheers,
John

Whatever works dude! So how much for a pressure plate these days? I shudder to think. ;) So with an 85 XJ750 I take it you are in Europe or Canada?

Yeppers. I'm in Canada; Nova Scotia to be more precise.
Cheers!

Yo dude, I also have a 750 maxim x. I'm from Newfoundland. The 750 and 700 maxim x are identical bike except that the 700 has a shorter stroke. This was due to the tariff and taxes on bikes greater that 700cc's inported to the US. So yamaha just shrotened the stroke. The parts from a 700 x should fit a 750 x. By the way, I need an exhaust and air box for my bike, you know where i can find any. Take er easy man.
