Hi all,
Just wondering what to look for in examining clutch plates.
My friction plates are 3mm, well above the 2.8mm wear limit. The steel plates are all nice and flat. I checked em on a sheet of glass. A couple of the steel plates have bluish heat discolouration.
Is thickness the main way to evaluate friction plates? Is there anything else to look for? I have absolutely no idea at all.
Thanks,
John

Bluish discolouration usually indicates slippage and I would be inclined to look at the pressure plate a bit harder. Especially if the plates are above min specs. Gotta toss the blue plates though as they will only wear faster now they have been heated.

I had a mechanic look at the plates and he says they should be ok. It was my clutch springs that were shot, so I ordered new ones. That should make a diffy.
Cheers!
