Hello, I own a 1982 xj 1100 maxim, shaft drive which i've had about 4 years, love the bike but i think i dropped a valve, major trouble started to miss and a big cloud of smoke rolled out and oil from the left exhaust. Everybody that i have talked to sofar including my local dealer says that only another motor from another 82 xj 1100 will fit and no rebuild kits are available. I refuse to give up on my bike for another. Any tech help would be greatly appreaceated. Thank you very much.

Wouldn't any XS11 engine fit, considering that's where the motor came from in the first place? Somebody on the XS11.com site should be able to answer all your questions, or maybe drop a line to Merriam Cycles. They know the XS/XJ 1100 better than anyone.

THere are rebuild parts available! 1179 big bore kit,1196 big bore kit.If your looking for a head i have a spare to get rid of. well i should say i would let go of.complete gasket sets are still around. So i don't know who your dealer is but not a very good one. And yes join up on the XS/XJ owners association web site. It's free no pop ups etc. i've been there for a few years now. Awealth of info ,actually any thing you want to know just ask. Just like this site. I think theres about 2200 members now and all own the XS/XJ1100's.an xs motor would fit phisicaly but the electrics are a little different.
