Title: Kick and center stand clank

laskey - September 2, 2005 01:01 AM (GMT)
This may sound like a stupid question, but when ever I put up the kick and/or center stand it clanks against the pipes. Am I missing a piece of rubber or something? If so, what kind of rubber can you use on exhaust pipes that won't melt?

Thanks,
Chris

You might want to check to make sure that your bushings haven't gone bad on you jiffy's. Also check to make sure the exhaust brackets are not bent. You might be able to get away with massaging them a little to stop the striking.

I'm afraid these don't appear to be OEM pipes. For one they are level with each other, and all my study of the parts drawings says that regular XJ 650 pipes are at different angles.

I was thinking that there isn't much I can do to the pipes themselves at this point. I was thinking the next best thing would be to strap some kind of rubber to the stands, somehow, at the contact points.

But I still don't know what kind of rubber I could use.

Cya,
Chris

Try installing a tab or bumper between the stand and the monting bracket (close to the pivot bolt). this way it stops the stand b4 hitting the pipes and you won't smell burnt rubber all the time.

Maybe wire some heat tape around the pipe where the stand hits?
