Title: Seca Turbo Front Brake Upgrade
Description: Finally Front Brakes

I used a 17mm master cylinder from a XS1100 Yamaha. I connected the 2 wires together to the computer. I used Kevlar high performance brake pads from Great Britain. I also used Russell Steal Braided brake lines. Why I never thought of doing this 20 years ago. For dual disk single piston calipers it is about the best I have used ever now.

Hey how much did that set you back$ Thinking about upgrading the brakes on my xj750 Maxim.

My bike needs a brake upgrade in the worst way. I'll definitely be going the braided lines route next year. I'll take one long line to one caliper, and install a banjo for two fittings, then take the second line up over the front fender to the second caliper. It's cheaper than going with three separate lines. I thought I had a novel idea until I went to the local Kawi/Ducati/Triumph dealer and saw a new Triumph setup this way. I already have kevlar pads, and they don't help a whole lot once the speeds are up.

Some turbo owners have gone whole hog and installed R1/R6 brake rotors (direct bolt-on) and calipers (pre-radial, with adapter plates) for true one-finger braking. One owner has retrofitted a 900 Seca rear wheel as well to get a hydraulic system out back. This, and some Progressive Suspension springs would transform my bike. On the CD there is an article on a turbo special, and the owner put an entire FZ600 front end on the bike, apparently, another direct bolt-on modification.

Just buy a XS1100 master cylinder off of e-Bay cheap. 3 lines are about $100.00.

The best way to go.

Winterhawk would the master cylinder off an XJ1100 maxim work as well or better than the Master cylinder off the XS1100?

You really need a XS1100 Master cylinder. An XJ1100 is made to work with 1 caliper. The rear master cylinder operates the back and 1 front caliper and is larger. An XS1100 front master cylinder is made for 2 calipers. I used Russell steal braided lines, Progressive fork springs with a 1.5 inch PVC spacer and 10 weight fork oil at factory settings and no air. A Tech fork brace and Tapered steering head bearings tightens the front end up. Night and day difference. I installed a few gages and Accell 1403 coils, a K@N air filter, Power-up kit and rear progressive 13" shocks/springs. B)

Winterhawk thanks for going out of your way and posting this info and picture. These breaks and front controls must be upgraded. Just today I took my XJ out for a spin and some fool just flat out pulled out of his drive way without looking or maybe his didn’t see me. But anyways I came within feet of hitting him and was almost thrown from my bike because the soft front end fully compressed. Almost did a flying W but luckily my feet landed back on the foot pegs thank god.
Oh yeah I just order a Smooth Motorcycle Tapered Steering Bearing Conversion kit from www.oldbikebarn.com/ for $59.95. I am also going to buy the Progressive fork springs from http://www.mawonline.com/progress.htm for $49.95 but i’ll have to look into the part number. I think it’s TR-77-1107 for the XJ750 Maxim but mawonline has the part number listed as 111107 but not sure if they are the same. Now I’ll have to look into winning a XS1100 master cylinder off e-bay. Also is than any advantage of using the front calipers from the XS1100 on a XJ bike if this can be done? Furthermore where did you purchase the tech fork brace from? Thanks for the assistance I appreciate the wealth of knowledge.

I don't think XS1100 calipers will work. Yours should be fine. I'd go with the steel braided with the XS front master cylinder as the braided hoses will not expand causing increased braking.

My XS1100 B)
