Title: XJ clutch springs - source?
xjgurp - September 18, 2005 11:26 PM (GMT)
I need 6 new clutch springs of 50.5mm length.
Mine are down below the minimum of 49mm.
My local dealer says he can't get them - yeah right.
Any tips on where to get clutch springs for my 1985 XJ750X ?
Thanks,
John

Who did you try?
Freedom Cycle in Bayers lake have been very good to me - they also now sell Yamaha, so I don't feel as strange bringing my old UJM to them... :) That'd be my first stop... or call.
If it was then you tried, then I guess the other nearby place to try is Procycle...
The other dealer I've had good luck with is the one in Truro. IRC it's off of the road from the last exit from the 102 before you end up going to PEI. That was where my maxim was originally brought I beleive and they seem to get parts as needed.

Thanks woot - so far just Pro. Sometimes they are helpful, other times it's like they don't even want to try to help someone with a (gag) 20 year old bike.
I'll check Freedom. Toad's might be good too.
Cheers,
John

xjgroup I found what your looking for at
http://www.denniskirk.com EBC CSK Clutch Spring Set
Dennis Kirk Part #: 382009
Manufacturer Part #: CSK14
Type: Clutch Spring

Just click on the Metric Bikes tap.
They as sell new Clutch wires and brake lines.
It may be a wise idea to replace the clutch wire now.

Hey thanks for looking that up! I had already ordered them though, through another local shop Freedom Cycle. Also ordered new carb boots. Maybe in a week or so she'll actually be on the road. Then I need tires and a safety sticker just in time to put it away for the winter lol.
Cheers!

These are technically "Die Springs"
If you know the needed length, Diameters and force wanted you can probably order a set froma n Industrial Supply or the likes of McMaster Carr...

xjgurp how much did they sell you the carb boots for?

$10.49 CDN each - I was shocked, expecting them to be like $30 or so. Seems like a great price to me considering the alternative of trying to use those old rock hard ones.
Cheers!

I read that as $104.90 the first time... at 10 bucks I'll have to get a set.

Thanks pal - I am ordering this set as the set provided by the bike shop is the wrong size. Thanks for looking it up - I am hoping it comes out at the right length.
edited to add: Meh... ordered new clutch plates and cable too :-) $15 USD shipping - excellent!
Cheers!

Glade to be of help. And thanks for the info on

Don't pay more than a few bucks for your springs (mine were $4 each CAD) from
http://www.universalcycle.caEither case, try a local motorcycle repar shop, not a dealer. Also, please use a torque wrench when putting back on the bolts. Ensure each are properly torqued to about 5-7N.

My Dennis Kirk order finally arrived. Nice new clutch plates and cable and springs that are 7.7 mm too short. Fsck! I emailed them with the precise measurement so maybe they can hook me up that way instead of through the model specs, which clearly are an issue in the cataloguing systems.
Cheers,
John
