Title: Accel or Dyna Coils
Description: Where to find them for an XJ650H

I'm looking for a replacement set of coils. I've heard that Accel or Dyna coils are the way to go. Does anyone know where to find them and what model to buy?

Thanks!

So I confirmed my suspicions today. My coils are shot. I measured the primary coil resistance and both are 3 Ohms. I measured the secondaries and one is 27K Ohms and the other 23K Ohms. I have been tinkering with jetting, fuel levels, different spark plugs, etc. and my plugs are carbon black & I lack power. I suspect that the weak coils are the cause. So I've seen mention on other lists in regards to the Dyna & Accel coils, and even some solutions to getting them mounted correctly, but nothing really dedicated to an article. Anybody up to it? Anyone have any pictures they'd like to share here for us to see?

Thanks!

Don't forget to remove the plug caps/covers and test it on the wire instead of with them on. They'll add 10000ohms on both ends. Remove them and re-check your resistance. I did mine recently and found that my coils were just fine, but my plug caps were shot. New coils are very $$$.

Ya know, I'm not so sure about that. I have 'bout the same readings on my stock coils. I too thought they were bad and ordered a set, because I was having a few cold start & backfire issues. But it sounds like your mixture is off a bit.

After a real painful experience in getting the damn things installed, I'd of opted to leave the stock ones on. Real pain in the ass since the Dyna coils just don't mate up like the stock ones. I tried using some L brackets and they stuck out so bad the gas tank scratched off the molding and it was bacially a mess. And my bike still runs the same. I later found my homemade YICS tool was made wrong, and I'm in the process of fixing that so hopefully resyncing will fix my current issues.

If you REALLY think they are bad, I'd go with the Accel coils. I "heard" they bolt right on, otherwise you can expect to fight the install issue with the Dyna coils like I did.

Pick yer poison....

I installed Accel coils on my Seca Turbo this weekend. Couldn't tell any difference. All the bull they put out about making your bike richer to run these coils is bull. Re gapping them to .035 is questionable? Retail $199.95 is a lot. I like them but installation is tough. If you want to see my mounts I'll take a pic for you to see how I fabricated a mounting system for them. My old coils were over 20 years old and started to cut out some in heavy downpours. New ones work great but can't feel the diifference.
