I am looking into changing my upswept exhaust into more of a straight look. Not doing it so much for the look, but to be able to put some larger saddlebags on without them sitting on the pipes. My concern about this is the center and kickstand have rubber "bumpers" on the upswept system, and am unsure how much they can be changed before it becomes a problem. Has anyone done this or have any advice?
I want to do the same thing so am looking forward to what people might suggest. I have already had to slice and re-weld my exhaust system as I got the bike with the wrong one on it, and had to make room for the sidestand (which was missing). So I learned that it's not too difficult, but haven't tackled changing the angles.
Meanwhile one thought is to go to a 4 into 1 system. Since they come out the right side, you neatly avoid the sidestand issue, and only have to change the angle of one muffler.

I like the idea of the 4 into 2 exhaust, just makes the bike look "balanced". I just did some measuring and figuring, and if I modify the angle by about 9.5 degrees, it will adjust the kickstand down only 3/4 of an inch, and the kickstand will be down about 1 1/3 inches. I think that the rubber "bumpers" might be able to be shaved down to where the kickstand is only dropped 1/4 of an inch or so, and the centerstand will be dropped by about 3/4 of an inch. (All of the measurements are at the rubbers). With this being the case I think it can be done, and would allow for about another 4" of clearance at the mufflers for some bags, which would help tremendously.
I do wish that anyone who has done this previously would verify that this will work though.
