Title: real wheel

MikeT - October 26, 2005 09:59 AM (GMT)
Hello all, great site, lots of useful info. I was wondering about my real wheel assembly on my maxim x. I'm not really familiar with shaft drive bikes as all my other bike have been chain drive. What is involved in changing the real tire? Anybody have any tips of advice on how to go about it. Thanks.

Mike

This is my first shaft drive too, and I thought it looked tricky, but it's not.

You'll need to release the brake rod from the torque arm (essentially, this is the cable attached to the rear wheel). Then remove the cotter pins on both sides of the axle and loosen the "spindle pinch bolt" which holds the right side of the axle, and the left side bolt, known as the "spindle nut". Then you just tap the axle out, left to right, ad the wheel is ready to come out. Pull it right, and then back, and it should be off.

Wheel removal is a good time to check bearings and brakes. I have new tires on the way right now, so that's my weekend' project.

Good Luck,

JC
